keep your heart to yourself

love

love

I am scheduling quotes in advance for the next few days as we will be traveling.   I love C.S. Lewis. His words are ever a comfort and inspiration to me.

From C. S. Lewis:

To love at all is to be vulnerable.

Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken.

If you want to make sure of keeping it intact; you must give you heart to no one, not even to an animal.

Wrap it carefully round with hobbies, and little luxuries;

avoid all entanglements; lock it it up safe in the casket or coffin of our selfishness.

But in that casket…….

                                   safe, dark, motionless, airless–

                                              it will change.

                                        It will not be broken;

it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable…

The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe

from all the dangers…..of love

is Hell.

Loving others will always involve pain. It’s a fact of life. Because only people we really love can hurt us and even when they don’t mean they will. Just like we will hurt those who love us even when we don’t mean to.

But I would rather love and take a risk of being hurt than I wold keeping myself cocooned.
