If you read yesterday’s post you know that I’m trying to find my “quiet” space this Christmas season.
I think maybe I have a little of it figured out.
This morning I changed my routine. I got dressed before I even came downstairs. I had my coffee, watched the news for a few minutes and got my day rolling shortly thereafter.
Ran an errand and then went grocery shopping. That went well until………….
I was waiting in line and it seemed like I was waiting a long time for relatively small number of people that were ahead of me.Then the announcement came that the computers were down. It was the third time that morning.
Immediately the word “quiet” came into my mind. I relaxed and decided I would stay “quiet’ inside. It worked and I wasn’t the least bit upset about the wait. After all these things happen, right? And I had started early enough that I was right on schedule.
The wait continued but I sense there was more to do with my “extra” time
I believe in praying for strangers. I hadn’t done it for a while though. So I looked at the elderly couple who were at the cash register when the computers went down. They seemed frail, but they were managing. It was easy to know how to pray for them, for strength, safety and love.
The man right in front of me was a little more difficult but because most people struggle with something, I prayed for his peace.
The day was extremely busy as I prepared for a “craft” day tomorrow with friends. I whipped up my wonderful cheese spread (I’ll include the recipe at the end of this post.) got everything ready, put up some more decorations and fixed dinner.
Hubby was gone till later. I didn’t turn on the television or the radio. My environment was quiet as was I.
I did hear some news that bothered me but I decided that it wasn’t my problem, so it wasn’t my drama.
I’m typing now and thinking what a lovely day this has been.
“Quiet” is more than the lack of noise. Quiet comes from within.
We can have a quite journey anytime we want. Oh, I know there’s going to be some stress. It is that time of year after all.
I won’t always be successful but that’s OK. It’s a journey, remember?
God bless and I hope you have a good day.
Cheese spread recipe:
2 8 oz packages cream cheese (either reg or light)
two or three green onions
1/2 to 1 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 chopped red pepper
1 large can drained crushed pineapple (in it’s own juice)
Seasoned salt to taste.
Can be served in a bowl or as a cheese ball. I kind of experiment with this recipe from year to year, adding more or less red pepper, walnuts, onion, etc. This is my go-to appetizer. Let me know if you enjoy it.
