These are the adorable coat racks (or whatever racks) we made for our grandsons. The dinosaurs are from the Dollar Tree. I spray painted them after my husband cut them in half. That part turned out to be harder than one would think. We were hoping they were solid all the way through but they were hollow. So the problem was how to attach them to the board. My husband took a small board and kept cutting it down on each side on the table saw till it would fit inside the hollow part. Kind of a “plug”.
After that it was just a matter of screwing the heads in from the back and attaching a hanger.
Here is another project. I found this amazing vintage fabric at JoAnn’s. It had just come in. I fell in love. I mean isn’t this the cutest ever?
I spray painted the cars silver and the clothespins Poppy red. It was cold that day so I put them in a small box and sprayed from overhead.
Then I hot glued the little trees (they were in a multi-pack of trees purchased at Jo Ann’s) onto the clothespin and tied it off with the jute. That’s it. These were a present for my daughter and her family. I got the idea on Pinterest but in that version the holders were meant for place cards. Seeing as no one I know does that, I used them for napkins holders. Of course, if you are having a fancy party, you could use them for for heir original intended purpose.
I should mention that making the napkins wasn’t my favorite. I’m a seasoned seamstress but square anything is hard to sew and make look good. Id rather make a dress! Also, I don’t know what I was thinking but I cut the squares at seventeen inches and wished I’d cut them at twenty-one inches so I’d end up with a twenty inch napkin. I was disappointed in the size. Heading back to JoAnn’s next week hopin they’ll have more.
Oh, by the way did I tell you I’m kind of a napkin ring and napkin collector? I must have close to one hundred napkins, and probably fifty napkin holders. What can I say. My mom made a lot of my napkins, the rest are probably about a quarter apiece form estate sales and garage sales. Same with the napkin rings. Either I’ve made them or found them at estate sales, garage sales, Goodwill, etc.
Yes, I do use them. Not every day but lots of times. In fact, now that I think about it, I need to use them more. Note to self: 2015: use napkins more often.
Here’s pictures of final product. By the way, she loved them!!!
Yikes, do you see what I see? This one below is on backward. Think she’ll notice?
