Being true to who we are doesn’t mean we remain stagnant

Recently, I re-blogged a post from a young woman I know. She has gone through some difficult times. I have encouraged her to blog as it gives her an outlet to express how she’s feeling.

She’s received a number of positive comments for which I’m grateful. However…………..while I’m glad she’s receiving positive feedback, I hope all the comments such as “You are great just the way you are”, “Don’t change a thing, ” “God made you the way you are”, isn’t giving her a false message.

It’s kind of like when parents over praise their children. Everything they do is wonderful. They’re just amazing. Etc. It produces this:

What I want to discuss here is that while God did create each us uniquely and we are truly special in his eyes, there’s nothing anywhere in the Bible that tells us we are saved to remain the same. Our personalities, yes. our spirituality, no.What I want to discuss here is that while God did create each us uniquely and we are truly special in his eyes, there’s nothing anywhere in the Bible that tells us we are saved to remain the same. Our basic personalities traits, yes. Our spirituality, no.

We are to grow in our faith.

Jesus instructed the disciples over and over again in this regard. The gospel message is more than just about our salvation. It can stop with that but Jesus said there is more, much, much more. It’s about personally knowing the author of that salvation. There is no teaching of Jesus that suggests our journey stops once we become Christians. Every teaching says otherwise.

Grow up in Christ

Grow up in Christ

God had to discipline Israel again and again because they never grew up in their faith.

We are to mature in Christ. Our personalities are who we are and we should remain true to that. There’s no need to tamper with God’s creation in that way.

I am the same person I have always been, meaning, my personality hasn’t changed an iota. But am I in a different place spiritually now then ten years ago? Then five years ago? Then yesterday?  I would hope so.

Why is this important?

Couldn’t we just go on the way we are and God would still love us? Of course.

But God wants more than that for his children. There is so much God has arranged for us to have, such blessings we can’t even imagine. But so much of what He has for us depends on our going deeper in our faith and the more we learn and grow, the better it is for us. AND the more attractive our faith is to others.

I can say without reservation that I would not want to be where I was when I started this journey.

It’s hard for me to write posts like this because there are so many people that just want to hear the good stuff. You all know how much I hate spiritual (or any other kind of jargon) but I like this one a lot.

Grace is free but it isn’t cheap.

Our grace was bought with a big price. A horrible, humiliating, and painful death. We, including me, take it way too lightly at times.

God bless and I hope you have a good day.
