We all know the definition of insanity, don’t we?
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Not much different than the hamster that can’t get off the wheel because he doesn’t quit running long enough to stop.
(Oops, that would be me. :))
We can be so much happier when we understand that the definition of insanity is absolutely true.
The Israelite’s wandered for forty years on a trip that should have only taken eleven days.
And why? Because they kept disobeying God. Don’t you think they would’ve figured it out in those forty years. But the lessons the older generation learned were lost on the younger.
Of course, we are no different, are we?God makes it clear in His word how we should live and it often goes in one ear and out the other. I think it’s because it’s hard to believe that we don’t know what’s best for ourselves. We don’t want anyone, not even the Creator of the Universe, telling us how to live our lives. It sounds too restrictive.
So we keep doing the same thing over and over ourselves and wonder why we continue to struggle with the same old habits.
If you’ve studied the Bible you probably already know this but just in case:
Most of the Israelites who were freed from Egypt never made it to the Promised Land. They died before they got there. They died in the wilderness.
Let’s not die in our own wilderness.
God call us to a “wide place” of freedom, not a restrictive one..
A number of the Psalms refers to this “wide place”. To me it’s that place of complete peace and joy.
Let’s find it by relinquishing our rights to control our lives. Let’s find it by getting off our own “hamster wheel”. Let’s quit doing the same thing over and over again and asking ourselves why things don’t change.
God bless and I hope you have a good day.
