Everybody's normal

Are you living an authentic life?

Just a quick post today because I’m busy working on a series about our thoughts and how we can manage them so most of my time has been spent doing focusing on this subject..

Plus, we are still in the re-modeling phase of our mini kitchen make-over.

I have a book by John Ortberg called, “Everybody’s Normal Till You Get To Know Them”. It’s a great book and he’s one of my favorite authors.

Everybody's normal

My husband and I have become acquainted with a couple who live near our cabin. We spent Saturday evening with them and had a great time. Earlier, we had attended some other events where I had interaction with a number of people.

That got me to thinking about people in general.

When you think about it, people are indeed normal till you get to know their quirks, their thinking, their habits. Then if they don’t fit in squarely with our world view, we start to think they’re not normal.

When the truth is, they’re just not like us.

And, of course, we use ourselves as the benchmark for normal.

It’s really very silly, isn’t it?

I don’t think we would feel this way if we were comfortable with ourselves in the first place. When we’re living authentic lives, we are much better at accepting the “quirks” of others.

We need to live lives that are consistent with our beliefs. But we have to know what those beliefs are in the first place.

What about you?

Are you living an authentic life? A life that clearly reflects what you believe?

It took me a long time to get there but I can pretty much say, I’m there now. I try not to overly explain myself. I try to remember that I’m a person too, who deserves loving care as much as anyone else. I am good company for myself.

I hope you are living a life that is consistent with your deepest hopes and dreams.

God bless and have a good day.
