Why we should try to understand violence

Peace

I was going to post some Christmas pictures today but wondered if I should post something frivolous or not because of what just happened in California.

So I just started to write and see where my thoughts led. Here’s what I came up with:

I know that all of us feel less safe than ever before. This is a frightening and confusing time. Like you, I’m trying to understand violence, trying to wrap my head around all this.

I think it’s important to not just react but to really think through the problem of violence in this world. We need to ask some questions.

How does someone get to this point in their life?

Why does anyone want to hurt anyone else? Ever?

How much hate do you have to have in your heart to just murder innocent people?

For me though, it goes far deeper than these questions however.  For me it centers around my faith.

Where does my faith fit in here? Really, I mean. Not what other people say, or what other people think I should feel, but what I really believe. And finally, what does the Bible really teach?

It’s way too easy to easy to just go along and not really study for ourselves, think for ourselves, decide for ourselves. It take courage to buck the establishment, whatever that establishment is, especially the organized church.

So where is God in all of this?

I’ve only come to one conclusion: this is not what God wants for our world.

God is not the author of any of this.

This is pure evil. Evil that has invaded the hearts and souls of individuals who have opened the doors to such evil

because

of

hatred

in

their

hearts.

Period.

This is all I really know right know; evil exists.

What to do about it?

I’ve heard all the political “rhetoric” on both sides just like you have. And so far, that’s all it’s been.

Talk.  Just words.

Let’s all put aside our pre-conceived political and religious convictions and start to think in fresh ways. As a Christian I’m not the least bit afraid to re-examine my by political and religious beliefs.

My God is far greater than my questions and my “wonderings”.

God bless. Stay safe and have a good day.
