Why I don’t want to overhear your conversations

images

Are you as tired as I am of overhearing cell phone conversations where too much is revealed?

If I don’t know you, do I really care about your personal business? I’m so tired of hearing more than I want to hear.

I was at the dentist’s office last week.  A young woman was on her cell phone discussing some sort of financial problem she was having with a financial institution.  “I don’t want you to take the money out before I get it to the bank. You did that before.” She went on for about ten more minutes.

Right there in the waiting room where everyone could hear her. I couldn’t help but wonder why she had so little pride

Seriously, what kind of person so easily shares that information when others can hear? Did she honestly think no one heard what she was saying?

What’s the matter that people are so willing these days to let everyone hear their personal business?

Whatever happened to self-respect and dignity? It’s ill-mannered and rude to put others in an uncomfortable situation which is exactly what happens.

And if the language is offensive, and it often is, what does one do then?

I can tell you what my husband did a few years ago.

A man was sitting ahead of us on a train coming home from Chicago. Seated a few rows ahead of him was a Quaker family with young children.

He made a phone call and his language was filled with the most offensive of vulgar swear words.

My husband was furious. He got up and politely asked the young man to quit using that kind of language, that there were young children seated just a few rows ahead.

Lucky for my husband, the man apologized and got off his home immediately.

There is a funny part to this story.

When the train stopped at our destination, the young man ahead of us got up before us.

My husband’s jaw just dropped. The man was over six feet tall and very hefty. My husband? About five feet eight inches.

We both started laughing as we realized we had escaped what could have been a bad situation!

So if you’re guilty of this kind of behavior, please be kind to those around you and move elsewhere.

We don’t want to hear your argument with someone. We don’t want to hear your foul language. We don’t want to hear you yelling at someone. We don’t want to hear any of your personal business.

Take your business and your phone and go elsewhere. The rest of us are not your private audience.

Do I dare say God bless now and have a good day?
