Do you have an ANT infection in your head? I’ll bet your wondering how that is possible. Well, it is. But you’ll need to read on.
Actually, we all have ANT’s in our head, some of us more than others. Read more here……..
ANTS are Automatic Negative Thoughts.
I would love to say I came up with this little acronym myself, but I didn’t. I read it in a little local publication a number of years ago and just found the page I had saved. What are some of the things we say to ourselves?
- I’m such a screw-up.
- I’m such a klutz.
- When am I ever going to learn?
- I’m too this or too that.
- I’m not enough this or that.
- I’m not as pretty as she is.
- I not as smart as he is.
These kinds of thoughts stop us from doing and becoming what we need to do and become.
So just like those pesky little ants in your kitchen, you’ve got to squash these ANT’s as soon as rear their nasty heads.
The way we do this is be recognizing our ANT’s as soon as we hear them in our heads. Easier said than done because they become such a habit with us, we don’t even recognize them until they’ve already dragged us down.
Now, what do you do after you recognize your ANT’s.
There are those that suggest you replace them with positive thoughts. That might work for you.
Others suggest you might make a list of all the things you like about yourself. Pick one each week and work on overcoming it.
Or you might ask yourself, “Why? Why do I think this way about myself? Whose message am I listening to, mine or someone else’s?
But maybe we should ask:
Is it true?
Sometimes the negative statements we think about ourselves may, in fact, be accurate. If that’s the case then maybe we need to work on them, not criticizing ourselves but acknowledging we have areas we need to improve.
For example, “I’m such a klutz”. Maybe that’s true because we’re rushing every minute. Maybe we need to slow down. (Ummm, this is definitely me.)
But maybe if you think of these ANTS’s as the marauding ants you get in your kitchen which you would never tolerate, then don’t tolerate these ANT’s either.
Romans 12:3 Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment………….
God bless and have a great day.
