Day: March 1, 2017

This is a different kind of post.

This is a different kind of post.

I am hoping by the end of the day, some decisions will have been made that will enable me to care for my mom the best way possible.

I want to encourage all of you who have aging parents or if you’re the aging parent, to make sure you have all your legal ducks in a row. We thought we did with my mom and frankly, because this past year I’ve been more concerned with her physical and mental well-being, I let some things slide.

It’s never easy to think about death, ours or anyone else’s. But we owe it to our children to make life as easy for them as possible when that day comes. Without a will, it’s almost a guarantee that it will be hard for them.

Yes, they’re kind of expensive but it could be more expensive for your children if you don’t. There are on-line wills that can be written although I have no idea how binding they are and I’m sure they’re pretty much cut and dried and may not apply to every situation. And even if you think you don’t need one because there isn’t a lot of money that will be left, think again. There’s your home, your car, insurance etc.

We had wills written when our children were really small. Last summer we revised them and had a trust established instead to ensure that whatever inheritance is left follows our bloodline from us to our children to our grandchildren. Also, there was a lot we didn’t know and are so glad to have that out of the way.

I hope this encourages some of you to think ahead about these issues.

God bless and have a good day.
