How “lying in green pastures” helps relationships

I think I’ve told you in the past that I don’t like ambiguity.

I like concrete answers.

friendships/relationships

I like the obvious.

And that spills over to relationships.

I don’t like chaos in my home or in my relationships.

When I decorate a room, I study decorating blogs. I look through magazines. I gather information.

But relationships are far more complicated. It’s not just the process of gathering information and then taking that information and making choices.

Relationships can be damaged forever if we make the wrong choices.

I had an experience a number of years ago with someone who made some wrong choices in our friendship. Because of that, I was in the position of needing to make some of my own choices. I had invested a lot into that relationship over the years. I knew of their history and felt empathy for them which I confused with friendship.

It was near Christmas and I decided I didn’t want to ruin my Christmas by worrying about it so I just stepped back for a while. I had a lot of “stuff” going on in my life at that time and decided I didn’t need any more. I knew I needed some distance so I could make a decision I could live with. Eventually, I decided to keep distancing myself from the relationship. I knew that if they approached me and wanted to discuss it, I would’ve done so with honesty and kindness.

That never happened though which further solidified my decision.

If you’re in the middle of a situation that needs resolving I hope my post today will help you realize that sometimes there are more options than you see at the moment.

Most things in life can sit on the back burner for a while. Often they resolve themselves. That’s the wonderful thing about options. You even have choices about your choices! Sometimes, waiting and letting the situation simmer is the best option.

I’m a great believer that time generally works in our favor.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He restores my soul.” Psalm 23. Let’s face it, our souls don’t usually get restored when we’re in the midst of the battle.

God bless and I hope you have a great day
