encouragement

A daffodil in defiance and a lesson to be learned.

Sometimes the most innocuous “something” can trigger a lesson we can learn.

For some reason, I am always noticing flowers that grow like in sidewalk cracks, road cracks, places they shouldn’t grow. I always see it as some sort of message from God to me.

My husband and I were taking our morning walk and I spotted this lone dandelion in an otherwise perfectly weedless yard. My first response was “You go, girl.” (Of course, a dandelion has no gender but “You go, guy”, just doesn’t work.)

I realize that the obvious explanation is that the week killer just didn’t get that far. But I chose to see a message.

You see, sometimes, I give up on something.

Do you?

Or even people.

Do you?

Frankly, there are times when I don’t want to keep praying about some” thing” or someone. I mean it just gets hard after disappointing results or worse no results. You keep expecting change but it doesn’t happen.

But Scripture tells us we are “not to become weary of doing good”, and that certainly applies to prayer. So what to do we?

Galatians 6:9-11 NIV

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

We pray anyway.

  • We double-down.
  • We refuse to give up.
  • We listen to the prayers we are praying.
  • We look to ourselves and to our life. Are there habits or sins in our own lives that are getting in the way?

Scripture also tells us that God does not always hear our prayers if there is sin in our way.

We don’t like to be reminded of that, do you? We never like to hear the word “sin”. We love to hear about God’s love though. We’re no different than children in that regards. We want to hear what we want to hear.

So don’t give up in your prayers. And if you are seeing no results, look within. Is there something getting in the way of your prayers being answered? Is there something in your life that needs to change? Only you can answer these questions.

I have had to do that myself. More than once.

And remember, there may not be anything amiss in our lives. It just might be we have to keep on keeping on. We can be sure that God sees our frustration.

Sometimes, I’ve prayed, “Lord, just give me a little sign, anything so I will be encouraged won’t get discouraged.” (However, I only pray this after I’ve been praying a long time about something or someone.) I’ve lost count of how many times God has answered that prayer for me. Sometimes someone I’ve prayed for says something and I know it is God telling me that they are responding to my prayers. Sometimes when it’s a circumstance, something happens and I get a little heads up. Once again I know that it is God’s encouragement to me.

God bless.
