A DIY using plate chargers. A great gift for friends.

I love working with plate chargers. I’ve used them for years. I buy them at garage sales, thrift stores, etc.

They really dress up a table. But I seldom spend more than maybe a dollar. Why?

Because I paint them.

I’ll you some in a minute but first this story.

I thought we brought up our children to know how to have good table manners. I mean we took them to some nice restaurants on occasion just so they could get the “feel” of fine dining.

So a few Thanksgivings ago, I used some metallic gold chargers. I left the dining room to get something from the kitchen. When I walked back in, there was my grown son (highly educated, etc.)j using the charger as a plate!!!!!! I don’t know what he did with it. No one said anything. I didn’t either until he figured it out himself. He wasn’t particularly embarrassed. Actually, I’m glad he wasn’t. Showed he can laugh at himself.

Anyway, last summer I conducted an inventory of my chargers and decided I needed to share some with my friends.

Here were the original chargers:

Here are some I painted white for another friend:

So the process was simply:

Wash the chargers and let dry.

Spray paint color of your choice.

Sand off some of the paint to reveal the gold.

This is a great gift for friends. If you know the color of their plates, you can coordinate with that. And, of course, the base color can be anything. And you don’t have to sand them either but for me that’s what makes them special. Letting the under color show through.

Anyway, hope you get to try this sometime.

God bless and have a good day.
