faith, crisis, a-fib

Boy, you never know, do you?

Remember, I told you how I finally bit the bullet and decided to host a Christmas party? My husband and I went to the store early today and bought the meats and few other last minute items.

We went to Barnes and Noble for a latte’. We were planning a lazy day and getting a few last minute things done and then taking it easy for the rest of the day. I had planned on wrapping a couple of gifts, “tweaking the Christmas decorations”, you know, all those things you do when preparing for a social function.

Instead, here’s how it went.

As we were enjoying our latte’ we received a text from our daughter-in-law telling us that our son’s scheduled colonoscopy was being cancelled due to an abnormal heartbeat.

We get a little worried, but Ok, he was in the hospital, right? Might just be a fluke or something. Our daughter-in-law didn’t say it was serious. She didn’t sound worried.

We are heading home when we get another text.

You know what’s coming, don’t you?

Our son was being transferred to the ER because he was in serious a-fib.

Now, we’re getting worried. No sooner did we get home but we get another message telling us the doctor was worried about a blood clot.

Well, needless to say, we packed our bags and headed up north. (It’s about an hour away.) We thought we might be spending the night. I left a door unlocked so someone from our group could come in and get the food and have the get-together elsewhere.

As we’re almost at the hospital, we get a call. He’s being released. He had been given meds and they felt it was safe to send him home. Needless, to say there are future tests to be performed after his a-fib calms down.

We visited him at home for awhile. He is tired, exhausted, and worried, although, of course, he never mentioned the worry part. He didn’t have to, did he?

I’m his mother.

Parents never cease to be parents no matter how old their children.

You are assuming I’m going to now write about how my fear about this party were nothing compared to my worry over my son. That how did I allow myself to get so wrapped up in something so trivial.

Now why that all may be true, I want to instead praise God for prompting me to do the right thing. In this case, it was to ask for prayer from as many people as I could think of.

I had everyone I know praying for him.

When we found out things had calmed now, and that one in four people who come to the ER with his symptoms end up having a stroke, I knew God has heard all those prayers. That’s a pretty high number.

But those prayers made a difference. I know everyone doesn’t believe that. But I do. I’ve seen so many prayers answered, I know God hears my prayers.

There is one prayer that will never get answered, though. Do you know what prayer that is?

It’s the prayer that never gets prayed.

He has some work to do. And I am worried about his reaction to all this. He is a very active, high-producing kind of a person. He is -t superintendent of a school district. It’s a highly demanding job and of course, he has a strong public profile. This will bother him a lot.

Needless, to say I have a lot of things to pray for in regards to him.

God is my first “go-to”, my last “go-to” and all the “go-to’s” in between.

So tomorrow night? I’m all set.

The house won’t be as clean as I’d like. I won’t be able to do everything I would’ve like to do. And I’m OK with that. I have some serious praying to do.

Our God is a great God and He is able to deliver.

God bless and have a great day.
