I love it when bloggers show the upgrades to their tiny bathrooms. I just about howl. There is tiny and then there is tiny. My bathroom is tiny.
This picture below shows the size of this bathroom the best. Do you see the hint of the tub on the left? Now, look at the floor cabinet. That’s the entire size of this bathroom. Now, this is what you call a small bathroom.
I think you can see why we are remodeling it. The blue wallpaper on the right is what was done years ago. The wall cabinet hid it.
We had a contractor put up shiplap on the back wall. I’m so excited. It was the only place we felt justified in spending money on the real thing. This is hubby painting the walls Behr Cottage White. It’s my go-to white. And, yes, we have popcorn ceilings and no, I have no intention of taking it off. Just like most decorating trends, it’s over and done and why anyone hates them so much is beyond me. If some decorator somewhere hadn’t started a trend to remove it, I doubt anyone would have thought twice about it.
If you look to the right in the picture below, you will see the trim. It too is that horrible orange stain. This bathroom is in our breezeway, which was a new addition to this old farmhouse. It was roughed in when we bought the house and we had no way to make this bathroom bigger.
Also, there are SEVEN doors in the breezeway and lots of trim. I have hated this trim for years! I am now seriously considering painting it all white. Unless you’ve tackled a project like this, you have no idea what this means. It’s a LOT of priming and painting and a very slow-moving project.
I’m trying to talk myself into it by reminding myself I can take as much time as I want. It doesn’t have to be done in a day. Except I know me. And I know once I get started, I will be like a dog with a bone.
These cabinet doors above are an experiment. I took some SW Black Fox porch and floor paint that we will be using later on basement steps, diluted it 3 to 1, and “washed” it on the doors. We are not replacing the cabinetry. The farthest door on the right shows the original orangey color I’ve come to hate.
The doors below show the paint with various finishes. I am probably going with the darkest, far left. I will probably apply a matte poly finish to it.
In case you’re wondering why I didn’t buy new cabinetry. I just couldn’t see the point. Seeing as there is the possibility we might be putting the house up for sale in the future, we’ll let the next person do that.
I can’t wait to show you the final project. We are also having new floors installed. Again nothing fancy.
I promise to give you updates as we go along.
So when you see an post about a tiny bathroom, remember mine. It’s truly the definition of “tiny”.
God bless and have a “big” day.
