From black to white. A great DIY project.

This week I’m concentrating on posting some DIY projects I’ve been working on.

It took me a long time to decide to paint this secretary. I knew once I started, there was no turning back. The first coat was a primer. Wait till you see what I did with the glass door.

I painted it! Yep. I was tired of having to arrange and display items when I really needed it for storage. So I thought, “Why not just paint it?” You can tell I painted right over all the scrollwork.

Here’s the new version. I wish I could say I had a plan but I didn’t. I painted three coats of chalk paint. I made my own chalk paint using Plaster of Paris and Cottage White by Behr.

I scrubbed off much of the white paint off the scrollwork and then used a black marker to hightlight various areas.

The base you see on the floor in this next picture was one of those happy accidents. I spray painted it creamy white and then sprayed it with gold paint. It started to drip and I thought, “Oh, I like that!” So I purposely kept spraying and allowing the paint to run down the sides. It turned out great.

I am so glad I painted it. And painting the glass on the door was a great idea. I now have a storage area that I needed plus I feel the piece itself makes such a statement, not having the shelves to decorate is no problem.

So what do you think?

God bless and have a great day.
