This is a great painted furniture make-over.
It took me a long time to decide to paint this secretary. I knew once I started, there was no turning back. The first coat was a primer. However, wait till you see what I did with the glass door.
I painted it!
Yep, I was tired of having to arrange and display items when I really needed it for storage. So I thought, “Why not just paint it?” You can tell I painted right over all the scrollwork as well. That part was planned.
Here’s the new version. I wish I could say I had a plan but I didn’t. The homemade chalk paint was a mixture of Plaster of Paris and Cottage White paint by Behr.
Using a black marker to DIY the scrollwork
After I scrubbed off the white paint from the scroll work and then I used a black marker to highlight various areas.
Frankly, I thought this was brilliant of me. Sure beat trying to paint around it.
A happy accident to this repurposing make-over
The base you see on the floor in this next picture was one of those happy accidents. So I spray-painted it creamy white. It started to drip and I thought, “Oh, I like that!” I purposely kept spraying and allowing the paint to run down the sides. Isn’t it great? Then I randomly shot some gold metallic paint on the drips.
I love how this secretary turned out and it serves a really useful purpose now. It holds a lot of my craft and painting supplies in it. This repurposing took a piece of furniture and turned it into a usable piece for my life as it is now.
The final touches to this great DIY
I am so glad I painted it. In my opinion, it’s a great painted furniture make-over And painting the glass on the door was a great idea. It is now a storage area for paint and crafting supplies that I so needed. Plus, I feel the piece itself makes a statement and I like not having the shelves to decorate.
However, this is not the first time I’ve painted glass doors on a piece of furniture. It’s very easy. I used a primer first, though.
So what do you think?
God bless and have a great day.
