Plate chargers area great Diy. I’ve used them for years. I buy them at garage sales, thrift stores, etc. I have lots of them for all kinds of occasions.
They really dress up a table. But I seldom spend more than maybe a dollar. Why?
Because I paint them.
I’ll you some in a minute but first this story.
I thought we brought up our children to know how to have good table manners. I mean we took them to some nice restaurants on occasion just so they could get the “feel” of fine dining.
A funny story
So a few Thanksgivings ago, I used some metallic gold chargers. I left the dining room to get something from the kitchen. When I walked back in, there was my grown son (highly educated, etc.)j using the charger as a plate!!!!!! I don’t know why he did with it. But no one said anything. I didn’t either.
Finally, he figured it out himself. He wasn’t particularly embarrassed. Actually, I’m glad he wasn’t. Showed he can laugh at himself.
Anyway, last summer I conducted an inventory of my chargers and decided I needed to share some with my friends.
You can buy them at Dollar Tree.
Here were the original chargers:
The process is simple. Clean the chargers. Spray paint. Distress.
Here are some I painted white for another friend:
However, there’s so much more you can do with them. Check it out here.
Plate chargers are a great gift for friends. Especially if they’ve never used them before.
If you know the color of their plates, you can coordinate with them. And, of course, the base color can be anything. These were all gold to begin with. And you don’t have to sand them either but for me, that’s what makes them special. Letting the under color show through.
Just wipe them off with a damp rag.
Anyway, hope you get to try this sometime.
God bless and have a good day.
