Three steps for handling election anxiety.

There are three steps we can take to handle election anxiety. Like many of you, I was fairly anxious about this election.

I am a conservative but not to the extreme. I’m much more of an independent but there are two areas I am adamant about: the right to life, and the freedom of worship.

I cannot, no, I will not, ever change my views about these two areas. I feel that as a Christian, they are without debate.

So, I was a little nervous as I see the other side closer to winning but today I’m better. There are three steps I’m taking that are helping.

The three steps for handling election anxiety defined

I’ll share them here with you.

  1. I am reminding myself that ultimately God is in charge of the outcome of our world. Satan may win some battles, and he is certainly winning some these days, but God will have the final victory.

Here’s what Jesus Himself stated about Satan in John 14:30:

I will not longer talk with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in me. John 14:30 Click To Tweet Be sober and diligent; because the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. I Peter 5:8-10 Click To Tweet

2. I am wearing my armor. (Ephesians 6:12-13):

  • Truth
  • Righteousness
  • Readiness
  • Faith
  • Salvation
  • Holy Spirit
  • God’s word

3. I am praying for my nation and for followers of Christ especially as Jesus did for his disciples in John 17:15.

Here is verse 15, the full prayer is in verses 10-17 and is really The Lord’s Prayer as most scholars agree. The Lord’s Prayer, as we have come to think of it is really The Disciples Prayer. Just thought I’d clarify that.

Verse 15:

“My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.”

Finally, I refuse to be angry. There is way too much of that right now.

It boils down to our witness in Christ.

Instead, I choose to show love and kindness especially by the words I choose. The three steps to handling election anxiety are good for us as individuals but we are also part of the world.

We live in an amazing country and while I see we have been becoming way too much like Europe and other countries where Christianity is given lip-service only, I still think this is a country unlike any others.

As Christians, it’s up to us to show love and acceptance of others while still finding a way to express our beliefs and stand firm in our faith. But we can only do that one person, one follower -of-Christ at a time.

Hopefully, each of us can be such bright light on a hill that others will want what we have rather than be so dim, no one has a clue.

God bless of you. I hope this is a good day for you.
