He set my foot upon a rock

Well, don’t have much to report from doctor’s visit. Am having to get more blood work, back x-ray and then wear a heart monitor for twenty-four hours..

I really don’t expect anything to show up. I can continue with aspirin as needed for pain until the test results are back.

Good news is that I can exercise again. For that I am thankful. Exercise is so-o-o-o-o-o- important in the treatment of depression. Plus, I get to listen to all my “oldies but goodies” music.

On another note: this morning I read one of my favorite Psalms. The first three verses are my favorite. They read:

“I waited patiently for the Lord and He inclined to me and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay. And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.”

What I didn’t fully comprehend before is the meaning of the words, “out of the miry clay”. Think about it for a minute. Isn’t that one of the worst things about depression? The clay. By that I mean how hard it is to gain our footing. Half the time we have no clue why we’re depressed. We manage to get one foot out and when we put it down again, it’s still in sinking soil. We get one thing figured out and then we realize there’s another.

But if we continue to tread in the mire, eventually God pulls us out and places our feet firmly on a rock. Notice the difference. God just doesn’t drag us out. He stands us up solidly on a rock! God never does anything half way.

I’ve been pretty much on that rock for a long time now. Sometimes my feet slip a little and I can feel the pull of the clay wanting to drag me down. But so far I’ve managed to stay on the rock even if I do teeter a little.

I very often picture these three verses in my head. To me they are a descriptive picture of depression as well as a vivid image of the rescue.

You might want to try it yourself.

God bless.
