Brrr. But it’s not all bad.

(I don’t usually post on Saturday, especially in the evening, but it’s cold and dark and I have nothing to do and it was a great day despite it all.)

I was going to stay home and not walk today but my husband decided to try out his new skis so I decided to meet him after a while and I walked while he skied.

The air was crisp, the snow sparkled and the sun shone brightly. I love days like that but it almost didn’t happen, because I was almost a “wus”.

“Why is that”, you ask?

I almost decided it was too cold. I mean I live in Michigan for crying out loud! Winter is always cold, colder, or coldest. It’s just a matter of degrees.

As I was walking and listening to my “Oldies but Goodies” music (my husband had already headed to his truck as he had been out for an hour by that time), I got to thinking about how I had almost let my it’s-too-cold-to-walk-outside attitude get the best of me.

I have always loved being outside. As a little girl, I would stay outside all day. Those were the days when children weren’t overscheduled and parents realized that play was an important part of being a child. That in fact, children learn a great deal when they play.

And I found my walk this afternoon no different.

There’s something about being in an environment that God, and God only, created. There’s something about nature that draws me close to Him. And it’s not just me.

“In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.+ Psalms 95:4-5

I think that’s why I love rocks and stones, rivers and woods, dirt. Man’s hand has had no part in it and frankly, with all the contentiousness in our society now, it felt good to be where the people you do meet are doing what they love to do.

And snow?

Well, that’s almost the best. When big fluffy snowflakes are lazily finding their way to earth, I am reminded how God’s love showers me as well.

I don’t know where you live but I hope you get to enjoy the snow at least once.

I’m glad I didn’t let my hesitancy keep me inside. Isn’t it great how God prompts us to do what is right for us?

If you live in Michigan or any place that is experiencing brutal weather, stay safe.

God bless and have a great evening.
